A Heart for nonprofits

When Emily Laurie joined Hogan Land Title as their marketing director in 2012, her main focus was to bring her energy and talents to help promote Hogan, but her heart for nonprofits was quickly obvious. Alongside the company’s owners, Kim and Keith Chaffin and Bud Hogan, Emily’s vision on giving back to the community was aligned with their company’s mission and culture.

 “There are so many opportunities to give back to our community and it just felt natural that my position at Hogan would allow me the opportunity to promote awareness of local nonprofit organizations,” said Laurie. “Hogan has always been super supportive of their community, even before me, I just helped promote their generosity.”

Emily started what she calls, Hogan’s “Calendar for a Cause” in 2013 during her maternity leave with her oldest daughter, Sloane. “It was one of those sleepless nights at 2:00 a.m. where I was up writing and starting thinking about this.”

Shortly after her return, she began contacting non-profit organizations and started supporting companies however was needed; including areas of financial assistance, time, awareness and even founding an event.

Betsy Miller, President of the Springfield Police Foundation contacted Emily about starting an event during a brief meeting in November of 2016. The idea turned into what is now called, “Black Loves Blue” and is celebrating its second annual tomorrow, May 17th at Black Sheep in Chesterfield.

“Last year more than $15,000 was raised to help the Springfield Police Foundation in areas of education, equipment and training and this year we are projected to raise more than $30,000,” said Emily. “Having a great community and so many local businesses to help alongside has been such an amazing experience!”
